McCall Thomas Engineering Company, Inc. is seeking a mid-level Substation Design Civil Engineer. Some travel will be required in order to attend client and internal team meetings.
Job location: Moncks Corner, SC or Orangeburg, SC (This is not a remote position.)
Work schedule options: M-TH 4X10 or M-F 5X8

A McCall-Thomas Substation/Transmission (Civil) Engineer will provide civil-structural engineering and technical expertise to Transmission Line and Transmission Substation engineering and design teams for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality engineering and design services. The Engineer will also provide direction on complex engineering and technical challenges for the projects. This role requires both direct billable client work and project management support for projects. The Engineer is expected to take initiative on discipline-specific work for projects, perform assigned engineering duties and manage project schedules and budgets. The Engineer will also support proposal development and project cost estimating.
The primary responsibilities for this role include:
- Understanding and creating substation civil-structural drawing packages (foundations, structural steel, bus and cable) utilizing national code, industry standards and best practices
- Managing third party site development design and site permits.
- Bill of Material development material procurement.
- Contract development for labor and managing bid process.
- Identifying, analyzing, and resolving engineering, technical and design problems
- Planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
- Assuming project lead responsibilities such as assigning work to other engineers and to technicians
- Producing thorough, timely, and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
- Signing and sealing drawings and reports
- Monitoring deliverables and schedules, and presenting solutions to the client
- Continually improving job-related engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, process development, and performance
- Representing the company positively and professionally, and developing and maintaining professional relationships with clients.
- Interacting with client’s internal engineering staff and technical personnel on a day-to-day basis

What You Will Need:
- Eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship (required)
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
- PE registration in SC required within 120 days
- 7-10 years’ experience in substation design preferred
- Experience preferred including preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications
- Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI
- Valid driver’s license
