Overview
The firm’s Appeals and Issues group needs an entry level paralegal to join its team in Richmond, Virginia. The paralegal will assist attorneys throughout the appellate process, primarily in federal circuit courts of appeal, but also in the United States Supreme Court and state high courts. The paralegal will be heavily involved in briefing and will develop an expertise in rules of appellate procedure.

Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with drafting and cite-checking legal documents to include pleadings, briefs, motions, subpoenas, and discovery.
- Manage case files on paper and online.
- E-file and hand-file all types of documents in federal and state court.
- Call court clerks and other paralegals to gather information.
- Conduct research to assist attorneys and librarians with case-related information.
- Maintain and update a calendar for dozens of cases on appeal.
- Prepare for and attend trails and appellate oral arguments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (Spring 2024 graduates welcome to apply).
- Strong academic performance in school.
- Strong organization skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Familiarity with office environments.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat.
- Interest in exploring the possibility of attending law school in the future is a plus.
