Job Title : Medical Records
Department : Nursing
Reports to : Director of Nursing, Resident Care Supervisor
Status : Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Records at McKnight Place Extended Care is responsible for ensuring that medical records are in compliance with appropriate regulations. The medical Records also represents McKnight Place Extended Care to the residents, their guests, families and the community. Each employee makes a significant contribution to our success in fulfilling our mission to safely provide the highest quality services, programs and facilities possible to enhance the quality of life for each resident, each and every day.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIES
The essential duties and responsibilities described below are representative, but not necessarily all-inclusive, of the position :
- Conducts and updates resident inventory sheets.
- Assume responsibility for sending for discharge summaries on recently hospitalized residents. Responsible for closing discharged charts
- Complete and send medical release forms with all residents scheduled for outpatient procedures
- Relieve the receptionist, cover with call-ins.
- Send out monthly orders for physicians signatures.
- Weekly code status QA.
- Maintain paper supplies for nursing office and order forms as needed
- Maintain function and supply of oxygen and suction equipment.
- Maintain oxygen concentrators
- Maintain accurate, concise and tidy medical record for facility.
- Uses all equipment and chemicals in the correct manner to ensure maximum cleanliness and eliminate waste or damage. Uses, understands and follows Safety Data Sheets and creates and maintains a safe work environment.
- Follows policies and procedures as set by the Resident Care Supervisor in all areas of duties, as outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Nursing Services policies and Procedure Manual.
- Reports maintenance and safety items to the Director of Maintenance and the Director of Nursing as well as the Resident Care Supervisor when observed, or to the MOD on the weekend.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education :
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be able to read and write.
Experience :
Prefer one year experience in hospital or nursing home setting.
Reasoning Skills :
Ability to understand and follow directions.
Oral / Written Communication Skills :
Ability to read, write, and speak English. Ability to interact pleasantly and effectively with staff, residents and families, and possess clear verbal and written communication skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Constantly organizing, consulting, planning, documenting, and using arms and hands.
Positive disposition.
Frequently bending, lifting items up to 50 lbs., pushing and pulling items up to 80 lbs. or more, organizing, consulting, planning, and documenting.
Occasionally sitting, climbing, crawling, and assisting residents with walking or pushing wheelchairs.
Adequate hearing and vision.
Constantly understanding and compliance with instruction and policies.
Constantly working in inside conditions, with chemicals and equipment.
Occasionally working with fumes, odor and dust.
Constantly working alone and occasionally with others.
