Responsibilities and Duties:
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization by fostering awareness, accountability
- Actively participate in safety initiatives, training exercises and on the job demonstrations
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, codes, and standards
- Stay up to date on changes in regulations and update safety programs accordingly
- Maintain OSHA 300 logs and submit previous year’s logs to OSHA by February 1st
- Assist with the design, development, and implementation of safety programs, policies, and procedures tailored to the specific needs of McNelly Services
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Coordinate & conduct monthly divisional safety trainings at least 9 months out of the year (Fleet Director covers 2 months for fleet & driving related topics)
- Coordinate & conduct safety training for all new hires
- Utilize safety matrix & calendar to cover all necessary topics at hire and/or as schedule dictate
- Development of Safety Training Calendar & Divisional Training Matrix
- Development of Refreshed Safety Manual & abbreviated Safety Manual (for new hires)
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety activities, including training records and incident reports
- Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement
- Work with divisional director(s) when an incident occurs to determine root cause and corrective actions
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety inspections of work areas to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly
- Maintain records of inspections, findings, and corrective actions
- Facilitate monthly safety committee meetings as well as monthly GC safety meetings, engaging employees in discussions about safety concerns, initiatives, and improvement opportunities
- Evaluate the safety performance of vendors and contractors working on-site to ensure compliance with safety requirements
- Assist to develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures
- Leverage external relationships as well as technology to improve the safety program's efficiency and effectiveness
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with McNelly’s safety consultant firm
- Lean on current vendors for safety supplies as well as safety trainings they offer
- Utilize available technology for distributing and tracking safety documents/trainings
- Responsible for ordering PPE for all personnel, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations
- Maintain stock of common PPE items so they are readily available to all personnel
- Track and document the inspection of specific items per industry and manufacturers standards
- Perform thorough research of needed safety equipment and purchase when necessary
Qualifications and Skills:
- Safety and compliance training experience preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels
- Self-directed and proactive about gaining extensive knowledge in safety practices & researching topics
- Capable of working independently, adept at prioritizing tasks, and skilled in managing multiple projects at one time
- Possesses and/or is committed to acquiring Occupational Health & Safety certifications
- Proficient in computer usage and skilled in organizing and filing documents efficiently
- Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software
- Experienced in developing comprehensive safety plans tailored to specific job sites, ensuring alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Skilled in creating and implementing safety programs that promote awareness, compliance, and continuous improvement across teams
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Chicagoland area to conduct job site audits as needed
- Flexibility to work outside standard business hours when project demands require it
- Bilingual Spanish a plus
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
