Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and optimal operation of facilities, machinery, and equipment used in production. This includes performing total preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical, and robotic equipment (including software programming), and may involve training and assessing other technicians and apprentices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Troubleshoot and Resolve Breakdowns: Attend to breakdowns, swiftly identify faults, and efficiently problem-solve to minimize production downtime.
2. Maintenance and Repairs: Diagnose and perform maintenance and repairs on various types of plant and equipment, ensuring safe and timely resolution to return equipment to operational service.
3. Timely Completion and Consequences Assessment: Estimate the time required for job completion and communicate potential consequences of failure to meet required timescales.
4. Risk Identification and Escalation: Identify and escalate any activities that could potentially cause harm or damage to personnel, equipment, or the facility.
5. Reporting and Feedback: Report breakdown root causes, equipment faults, and concerns to management, promoting a culture of open communication and continuous improvement.
6. Quality Standards and Targets: Ensure all work is executed to high-quality standards and adheres to relevant regulations, contributing to the achievement of company targets for part quality.
7. Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Assist in the development of PPM schedules, carry out PPM activities as necessary, and provide feedback to enhance the effectiveness of the maintenance system.
8. Machine Handling and Installation: Support the moving, installation, and repositioning of machines and equipment as required.
9. Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS): Utilize the CMMS effectively to record work, track progress, and manage maintenance tasks.
10. Workload Planning and Prioritization: Plan and prioritize workload to support production requirements and optimize the efficient use of working time.
11. Safety, Compliance, and Reporting: Adhere to health, safety, environmental, and quality management procedures, ensuring a safe working environment. Report all incidents, accidents, and equipment problems promptly.
12. Continuous Learning and Industry Trends: Stay updated with current and emerging manufacturing and engineering trends related to maintenance, enhancing knowledge and skills through continuous training and development.
13. Continuous Improvement and Problem Resolution: Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, perform root cause analysis, and resolve problems to enhance the maintenance function.
People and Relationship Management:
1. Mentoring and Training: Train, mentor, and provide leadership to apprentices and less experienced technicians, supporting their development and growth.
2. Communication and Feedback: Serve as a communication point between the maintenance team and management, fostering proactive feedback and maintaining high team standards.
3. Collaboration and Relationship Building: Collaborate effectively with internal departments, external suppliers, service providers, and customers, ensuring good communication and fostering positive relationships.
4. Contractor Management: Ensure compliance with company procedures when engaging and utilizing contractors, coordinating their activities as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Professional accreditation with an industry-related body is advantageous
2. Experience in industrial maintenance
3. Hands-on Problem-Solving: Demonstrate a practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving in maintenance activities
4. Basic PC Skills
5. Substantial experience in a high volume manufacturing environment
