Lifeguard Seasonal Positions (2024)

The Metropolitan District Commission (\'MDC\') is currently accepting applications for several lifeguard positions at Lake McDonough in Barkhamsted, which is located in the northwestern corner of Connecticut (45 minutes from Hartford; 1 hr. 15 minutes from New Haven. Twenty minutes from Torrington).

Description:

• Monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers at Lake McDonough; cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas; maintains order in swimming areas; rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid and\/or CPR as required; instructs patrons in water safety.
• Participates in physical and rescue skills training; performs general maintenance tasks, including beach cleaning, as assigned; performs related duties as required.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with The MDC's policies and procedures.
  • Enforces all policies and procedures rules and regulations in order to ensure the safety of patrons. Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Candidate must have outstanding customer service skills and have the ability to maintain effective and positive relationships with patrons and other staff.
  • Proficient swimming ability and proper application of rescue and first aid techniques
  • Lifeguard certification preferred

    Seasonal employees at Lake McDonough are required to work Saturdays, Sundays and holidays throughout the season.

    Lifeguard positions begin in late May.

    Bilingual English\/Spanish are encouraged to apply.

    Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

    All seasonal employees at Lake McDonough are expected to work through Labor Day.
