Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe and clean environment at the aquatic facility.
- Anticipate and prevent unsafe situations using good judgment.
- Recognize and respond to incidents, injuries, and emergencies, providing necessary treatment including CPR.
- Enforce facility and departmental rules and regulations.
- Provide swimming instruction and plan lessons, activities, and games for program participants.
- Use communication skills and judgment to resolve adverse situations.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain positive public relations.
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions and maintain fitness to perform job-related tasks.
- Work a varied schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Arrive on time, prepared for work, and arrange approved substitutes if unable to work scheduled shifts.
- Report incidents, accidents, hazards, emergencies, and injuries to supervisors, and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Inspect the facility and equipment daily, reporting unsafe conditions or equipment to supervisors.
- Perform additional responsibilities as directed by supervisors.
- Knowledge of aquatic programs, equipment, and rescue techniques.
- Understanding of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Decision-making skills following established policies and procedures.
- Effective working relationships with Town staff, volunteers, sponsors, and the public.
- Firm, tactful, and impartial enforcement of rules and regulations.
- Alertness and ability to maintain a safe environment.
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid.
- Certification as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) is recommended.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, including hot, humid, wet, and chlorinated environments.
- Strong swimming, diving, and rescue skills.
- Ability to operate computers and typical business equipment.
- Physical mobility and stamina to teach swimming and perform rescues.
