JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Custodial Director or assigned Lead Custodian, the position will perform the day-to-day custodial duties and operations of the building. The position will be expected and required to follow all applicable assigned duties, policies and procedures as defined by the District and Department. - Provide general custodial duties, including cleaning school facilities and grounds, arranging furnishings and equipment, and securing buildings.
- Answer all district calls and respond promptly, act as point of contact when required.
- Communicate needs and cooperate with co-workers, fellow departments, and other shifts when necessary.
- Follow the general direction of the Lead Custodian, looking to increase efficiencies in workflow while providing a balanced workload and ensuring clean, safe and sanitary conditions.
- Operate equipment to meet building needs including: tractors, extractors, and floor scrubbers as well as any other assigned equipment. May also perform functions working from heights on ladders.
- Monitor and maintain equipment or complete emergency work orders to ensure equipment maintenance.
- Monitor supply needs and report needs to Custodial Leads.
- Identify work order needs and report to Custodial Lead.
- Ensure all chemicals are used safely and appropriately within the building according to GHS Chemical Safety Sheets and district directed standard operating procedures.
- Respond to Security and Fire Alarms as needed.
- Complete projects or travel between buildings as assigned.
- Observe and ensure all safety rules, regulations and training are followed and report any safety concerns or violations to Department Director.
- Attend meetings (which may occur outside of the regular work shift) as required by Director.
- Perform other tasks at the direction of Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Training/Experience:
- High school diploma and/or GED equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver’s license if position requires travel between buildings.
Experience:
- Ability to identify and respond to problems and to remain calm under stress.
- Ability to follow verbal or written directions.
- Must Possess interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally with persons at all levels while displaying a cooperative and willing attitude toward helping others.
- Understanding of and ability to work with a variety of equipment including man lifts, tractors, extractors and floor scrubbers.
- Understanding of Chemical Safety requirements and application use.
- Understanding of safety procedures and labor safety standards.
- Must possess the ability to lift, push, and pull weights in excess of 50 pounds.
- Must be willing and able to climb ladders and operate lifts at elevated heights.
- Willingness to respond to emergency calls.

A person working in this position will work in a variety of work environments both inside and outside with occasional exposure to inclement weather. The Position requires continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting of more than 50 pounds and carrying. This person may be required to work in restricted spaces, from a prone position, and/or under difficult lighting and access conditions. Noise level may be high when operating power equipment. Employee is required to properly use such safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.
