Job Description
The Health and Human Services Director exists to create the vision and set the direction for the Health and Human Services Department. Responsibilities include the overall administration and management of the department, program and fiscal accountability, and participation with collaborative partners that will advance the Health and Human Services Department's public relations mission. The work is performed under the general direction of the Meeker County Board and with professional consultation from the Minnesota Department of Human Services and Minnesota Department of Health with independent judgment.
Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Directs health and human services program planning, implementation, and evaluation; oversees the ongoing development of integrated services; selects and supervises senior staff and delegates supervision; directs the planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of the H&HS budget; assures the provision of staff and other resources necessary to accomplish the mission of the department; reviews and approves required reports; reviews and approves the development of grant applications; creates, reviews, and approves internal policies and procedures; oversees contract management; reviews and approves required fiscal performance; monitors workplace safety and efficiency; promotes and supports an environment of equity and inclusion for all staff and customers; promotes a diverse, culturally competent, and respectful workplace.
Serves as the primary contact between the department, the County Board, the Minnesota Department of Human Services, and the Minnesota Department of Health; knows and interprets federal, state, regional, and county regulations and requirements and assures compliance.
Participates in collaborative community planning and resource development; participates in national, state, and regional associations that advance the work of health and human services; participates as a member of the County management team.
Represents the department to the media or delegates function; provides presentations that describe programs and advocates for health and human service issues.
Contributes to a positive, efficient, and professional work environment by working independently and as a team member to achieve and continuously improve individual, team, division, and department outcomes.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Education and/or Experience
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, or related fields including health administration, public administration, business administration, and four years of supervisory experience in a health or human service agency. A Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, or related fields including health administration, public administration, business administration, and two years of supervisory experience in a human service agency preferred.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
Incumbents may be expected to travel to external locations/organizations.

2025 Salary Information: GRADE LEVEL: E83 - ANNUAL SALARY: $105,518 - $141,835
