What are the responsibilities and job description for the Visitor Services Admissions Team Member (Seasonal) position at Memphis Zoological Society?
Summary:
The Visitor Services Team Member is responsible for processing General Admission and Memphis Zoo membership sales as well as providing visitor assistance upon entry to the Zoo.
Essential Job Functions:
- Process sales cash and credit card transactions using a POS system.
- Promote Zoo membership sales.
- Answer visitor questions regarding Zoo memberships, ticketing, special events, and general Zoo information.
- Demonstrate proficiency in POS (point-of-sale) systems.
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service in a professional and friendly manner.
- Proactive, flexible, and able to use sound judgement in making decisions related to guest issues.
- Adhere to Zoo policy and safety protocols.
Potential Functions:
- Assist in crowd control in various weather conditions.
- Various administration duties on an as-needed basis.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- One year of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, demonstrating the applicant's ability to perform the responsibilities and requirements outlined above.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Previous cash handling experience in entertainment, sports, or hospitality organization.
- Bilingual or ability to effectively communicate with individuals who speak different languages.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Seasonal positions are defined as temporary work to meet an organization’s temporary needs during certain times of the year and can last up to 6 months. This position can be scheduled to work approximately up to 40 hours per week. Scheduling is at the discretion of the manager. This position is considered non-exempt under the federal and state wage and hour laws.
This position regularly requires flexible hours including weekdays, holidays, and weekends including early morning, daytime, and evening hours to provide coverage during Zoo hours of operation.
Work Environment:
Performing this position's duties requires working independently in admissions booths for extended periods of time and exposure to moderately loud noise levels on high attendance days. Position includes extensive interaction with the public. Employees should be prepared to work in a busy and dynamic setting.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While mainly a sedentary position, while performing the duties of the job the employee will frequently work in alternate settings between indoors (office environment) and outdoors (Zoo grounds). When outdoors this position is required to work in various weather conditions including rain, humidity, and extreme heat or cold. This position has extensive interaction with the public.
