Job Synopsis

The HR Intern will work for 10 weeks during the summer, assisting with a variety of HR tasks including orientation, children's orientation and re-entry conferences, archiving personnel files and administrative HR work.

MCC is a people-sending organization that provides opportunities for people to live and serve in the name of Christ. During summer months, Human Resources (HR) leads conferences to orient or welcome back workers, including providing programming for children of families serving with MCC. Most, but not all, of the conferences are on MCC's campus

In addition to the development and worker care conferences above, this position will support the ongoing work of the Human Resources department through project support in areas of recordkeeping, compliance, recruitment, and other areas as assigned

Essential :

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 360 including Forms
  • Strong collaboration, teamwork and relational skills with adults, youth and children
  • Demonstrated interest in and curiosity about understanding cross-cultural service, intercultural competency, anti-oppression work and Christian service.
  • Openness to learning about MCC while authentically communicating the beliefs and values of MCC in relating to participants.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality related to various Human Resources tasks.
  • Interest in and ability to work with children in transition between cultures with age-appropriate learning and play activities.
  • Interest in learning about organizational HR.
  • Ability to obtain PA child abuse clearances.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license with acceptable driving record and eligible to be an MCC authorized driver as defined by policy, insurance, and legal requirements. This includes being age 21 or older for rental vehicle requirements.
  • Employment eligibility : Legally eligible to work in the U.S. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).

    Preferred :

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or French a plus.
  • Bachelors or Associates degree in progress in Education, Childhood Development, Psychology or Human Resources. Priority for candidates completing an internship for academic credit.

    Key Responsibilities

    The intern will work with the HR department to assist in a variety of tasks associated with these conferences as well as ongoing HR projects.

    Tasks may include :

  • Orientation preparation : Help prepare resources for orientation and Children's orientation, including making photocopies, assembling folders, gathering supplies, assisting with logistics and data entry.
  • Children's Orientation : There is a separate program for children of families moving into MCC assignments in new cultures and contexts. The intern will work with the Children's Orientation Coordinator to support this program, assisting with and driving for activities such as field trips, lessons related to cross cultural adjustment, crafts, games, etc.
  • Hospitality : Welcome orientation participants, informal interactions between sessions, building relationships and letting staff know of any concerns they should be aware of.
  • During Sessions : Possibly help facilitate small group and debriefing exercises, opportunity to lead a devotional or team building activities, depending on individual's skills and experience. For hybrid / virtual participants, this can include helping manage Zoom functions (break out rooms, interpretation tools, responding to participant questions and needs, etc.)
  • After conferences : Assist with follow-up and clean up after conferences, compile evaluations.
  • Personnel Files / Recordkeeping : Work with HR staff to archive personnel files for former staff members. This requires processing each physical and / or electronic file to select the information that is scanned to records for permanent retention and securely destroying the rest of the file. This task requires a high degree of confidentiality. Additional projects include auditing additional records and benefits information.
  • Recruitment support : Attend HR recruitment team meetings to help brainstorm creative ideas to promote MCC opportunities. Assist with logistical / administrative tasks and networking to prepare for upcoming recruitment engagements.
  • Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis
  • Supervision : This position does not directly supervise any positions.

    Travel expectations : Travel up to 5% locally. Position includes occasional evening and weekend work and occasional long days.

    Physical Activity / Demands :

  • Occasionally ascending or descending stairs / ladders or the like.
  • Occasionally remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another.
  • Occasionally light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and / or fingers.
  • Occasionally operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Environment Conditions - exposed to :

  • Occasionally high temperatures
  • Occasionally outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
