POSITIOM DESCRIPTION
Position: Parent Educator – Teen Program: eTAP
Reports to: Program Director Supervisor Responsibilities: None
Position Summary:
The Teen Parent Educator should have an understanding of early childhood development, experience working with families and comfortable providing services in home settings, virtual platforms, and at the local high school and middle school sites in Lake and Porter County, IN. This person should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with both parents and colleagues and an ability to relate to people with respect for their individuality. The Teen Parent Educator should be able and enjoy functioning appropriately in an autonomous work environment and be highly motivated and creative. Lastly, the person should have an understanding of Northwest Indiana’s cultural diversity and human service needs, and experience working with community agencies and a passion for the mission.
This program utilizes research based theoretical frameworks and curriculum to achieve outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, although other duties may be assigned to meet agency needs:
- Identifies and recruits teen families with children prenatal to age 5
- Protects the integrity, respect and confidentiality of other staff and the families served in a culturally sensitive manner
- Carries a case of 25-30 families, providing monthly and bi-weekly personal visit in the home, virtually, or local high school and middle school sites, with frequency dependent on risk factors assessed for each family
- Must be able to work with strengths-based and family centered service models
- Must be able to attend 5-day training to become certified as a Parent Educator, as well as other professional development
- Attends monthly staff meetings and one-on-one reflective supervision meetings
- Responsible for documenting and organization of charts and web-based data entry in accordance with program guidelines and in a timely manner in order to track program outcomes
- Participates in outreach efforts for community awareness and support (i.e. distributing brochures to area agencies, attending community functions)
- Ability to show acceptance of individual differences
- Co-facilitates group connections and community events, as assigned
- Reports to Supervisor with any issues including staff conflict, caseload concerns, scheduling and salary
- Subject to evaluations by Supervisor, Peers, and eTAP parents
- Ability to function appropriately in a flexible and autonomous work environment and be motivated and creative
- Observes safe job practices, maintaining a clean and safe working environment

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in human service field such as social work, psychology or education
Minimum of 1 year field experience
Valid driver’s license and adequate auto insurance
Pass criminal history background check
Ability to show acceptance of individual differences and develop trusting relationships
