Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven HUD Accounting Assistant on Oahu to support our finance and housing teams. If you’re passionate about numbers and making a difference, this is your chance to play a key role in helping us provide stable housing to individuals managing mental health challenges.
As a HUD Accounting Assistant on Oahu, you'll be instrumental in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with HUD requirements. Your work will support essential housing programs that create meaningful change in the lives of vulnerable individuals across our community.
HUD Accounting Assistant Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum three (3) years of accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks or OneSite is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and professionalism when working with individuals facing mental health challenges.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Current TB Clearance or TB X-Ray.

HUD Accounting Assistant Responsibilities:
- File Management: Organize and maintain HUD project documentation including contracts, legal files, and program records.
- Accounts Management: Process accounts payable and receivable, perform rental collection tasks, and prepare HUD billing statements.
- Audit & Compliance Support: Assist with audits, generate reports, and ensure compliance with all HUD-related requirements.
- Financial Reconciliation: Reconcile ledgers, track inventory, and ensure accuracy in financial systems.
- Team Collaboration: Partner with the Housing Division Manager to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and ensure program success.
