Job Description

The Novel Expression Systems (NES) team is seeking a Scientist with experience in strain engineering and molecular biology. Our team is part of the Continuous & Expression Technologies group within the Process Research & Development Enabling Technologies organization. We are tasked with introducing and advancing expression systems across a range of organisms that will be applied to discovery and development of novel biologics and vaccines, as well as to our engineered enzymes. Our all-modality team works closely with scientists across our company to advance science and technologies with the goal of improving human health.

As a member of the Strain Engineering team in Novel Expression System group, the applicant will serve as an individual scientific contributor as part of a team responsible for strain construction and optimization of various expression systems for enzymes, vaccines, and other bioproducts. The candidate is also expected to carry out collaborative research supporting the implementation of these methodologies which involves conceiving, designing, and executing molecular biology experiments. A successful candidate should also have excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills and maintain a focused attention on laboratory safety for everyone on the team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• With medium to minimal supervision, design, conduct experiments for strain engineering and optimization with primary focus on eukaryotic hosts such as yeast.

• Close collaborations with fermentation team within NES group and other cross function groups for operation and scientific support.

• Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory work environment.

Education Minimum Requirement:

• BS with 2 years of experience, or MS with relevant academic or thesis experience in molecular biology, genetics, biological engineering, biotechnology, biological science, microbiology, or related field.

Required Experience and Skills:

• Hands-on experience in basic techniques in molecular biology.

• Experience with plasmid construction and strain engineering.

• Experience with typical analytical methodologies in molecular biology.

• Technical knowledge and know-hows in microbial cultivation.

• Well-developed organizational, record-keeping, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Experience with both prokaryotic and eukaryotic (preferably yeast) expression systems

• Knowledge and experience in strain engineering and gene editing tools, such as CRISPR

• Experience with statistical data analysis tools, design of experiments and data pipeline for visualization
