POSITION TITLE: Human Resources Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Administration GRADE: 3 FLSA: Non-Exempt FTE: .5

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Supports Human Resources Director and library staff by performing duties and understanding concepts related to human resources.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Director

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

BENEFITS:

SALARY: $17.50-19.09 per hour, depending on experience

SCHEDULE:

Unpaid meal break of at least ½ hour per shift to be taken for each 5 hours scheduled. Typical schedule is Monday – Friday. Some evening or weekend hours may be required for outreach opportunities or other library-related assignments.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports the Human Resources Director in daily operations and the administration of processes related to FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, Verification of Employment, and Unemployment claims.
  • Supports library staff by being approachable and available to answer questions related to human resources including library policies, the Employee Handbook, benefits, and compensation.
  • Helps with staff training and meetings by researching possible topics, contacting presenters, scheduling, and performing additional coordination duties.
  • Assists with documentation and processes throughout the employee life cycle, including coordinating activities for recruitment, interviews, onboarding, transferring positions, and separation.
  • Supports HR Director and staff with benefits administration including open enrollment processes, staff questions, and communication with the Benefit Advocate.
  • Works with contractors and vendors related to staff training, recognition, and other human resources-related supplies.
  • Supports employee engagement, awards, and recognition initiatives and activities.
  • Update current human resources handbooks, procedures and other documentation as needed to support staff.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts regular audits of payroll and HR records; assists with other audits as needed.
  • Observes and reflects upon District-wide employee engagement and morale and assists leadership with opportunities to promote and increase engagement and morale.
  • Participates in library committees and may serve as library committee chair.
  • May attend job fairs, recruiting, and outreach events to ensure opportunities are promoted to the entire community and to support librarywide goals.
  • May perform research to support compensation analysis, salary structure, and compensation strategies.
  • Communicates consistently and in a timely manner and through email. Works with others to complete assignments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge and current awareness of library principles, practices and tools, procedures, methods, materials, and philosophy
  • Ability to identify when confidentiality, discretion, and judgment are needed, and exhibit these traits appropriately
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills; ability to manage situations with appropriate empathy, tact, professionalism, and diplomacy. Exercises professionalism and good judgment in interpersonal interactions
  • Exhibits leadership, critical thinking, sound judgment, and professional demeanor in all situations; thinks and acts appropriately under pressure
  • Ability to learn and understand basic principles, practices, and policies related to human resources

  • Fluency in Spanish is a bonus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to communicate verbally with library staff

Ability to maneuver about the library in a timely fashion

Ability to read a minimum print size equal to 10 point

Ability to tolerate dust, mold, etc. that may have accumulated on books

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Combination of four years’ experience and/or education in a related field

Education can include college or vocational or technical training

Experience can include public library service

SCHEDULE:
