SUMMARY : Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Technology Services this position performs a variety of complex systems administrative functions for the Department / District. Employee is responsible for effective provisioning, installation / configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software including the related technical infrastructure. This role researches continuing innovation within the infrastructure, and ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values and the district's instructional mission. This role also assists the senior level staff and Technology Services project teams with technical issues in the initiation and planning phases. Accountable with oversight from senior staff for the following systems : Windows systems that support the technical infrastructure and Windows and Application systems that support instructional management; instructional support; and enterprise financial management, asset management, and human resource management business processes. Responsibilities include engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and the creation and updates to network infrastructure documentation.

Job Responsibility Descriptions

  • Engineer through collaboration with senior level personnel all Infrastructure-related solutions for various project and operational needs. Employee installs new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project / operational requirements under direction of the Senior Engineers. Install and configure systems to support infrastructure applications and enterprise applications. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Provides Tier II / other support per request from various constituencies including installation and trouble-shooting of instructional / non-instructional server application software.
  • Contributes to and maintains systems standards. Employee will research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks and identifies approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of network infrastructure documentation sufficient to allow business continuity and detailing the network infrastructure to ensure transition and backup personnel are able to manage in the absence of this individual.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, switching and routing resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs. Employee verifies completion of regularly scheduled jobs such as backups and investigates and troubleshoots escalated issues. System Administrators are responsible for repairing and recovering from infrastructure failures while coordinating and communicating with impacted constituencies. This role also performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Creates, changes, and deletes user accounts per established processes. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary. Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs. Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
  • Assists the senior level staff and Technology Services project teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project life-cycle.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other related field
  • Preference given for Systems Administration / System Engineer certification in Microsoft;
  • Minimum three years' experience operating in and / or systems administration for a technology department;
  • Minimum of one year's experience in project management preferred;
  • Acceptable demonstration of acceptable education and / or experience will be at the sole discretion of the District.
  • LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS :

  • Criminal Background Check required for hire;
  • Valid Colorado driver's license or identification required;
  • Preference for Microsoft & applicable Networking certifications;
  • Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by the Executive Director of Technology.
  • TECHNICAL SKILLS, & KNOWLEDGE :

    Legal Knowledge - This role must possess a working knowledge of and promote and enact federal, state, and District education policies, standards, and procedures. This position is responsible for supporting District personnel in understanding and abiding by legal and ethical boundaries as outlined in the :

  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • MATERIALS AND OPERATING EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE :

  • Expertise knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals;
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, etc.;
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, schematics, email, and online computing platforms including G and Office 365 integrated educational packages;
  • Operating knowledge of various applications for analysis tools, methodologies, and software including VISIO, Microsoft Server 2012 or greater, and Linux OS.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Layer 3 routing and VLAN protocols.
  • Networking knowledge of switches, routers, hubs, servers, cables, racks, firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP / IP, DNS, UDP, latency, VoIP, QoS, 6 months after hire.
