Position Description
Position Summary
The Director of Athletic Communications is responsible for providing information to national and conference offices, opponents, Messiah University publics, and news outlets regarding the athletics program and for executing home competition operations. Director of Athletic Communications serves as a role model in meeting our complimentary goals of “Pursuing Athletics Excellence…Developing Christian Character.”
Education Required
Master’s Degree (preferred fields of study include Athletic Administration, Sports Journalism, and/or Sport Management)
Education Preferred
Experience Required
Minimum of one-year experience in writing and statistics

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position
• Ability to administer components of sports information work (e.g., statistics, news media, web site, publications); • Ability to train student workers to aid in meeting sports information needs; • Ability to speak and write appropriately and develop marketing strategies to reach regional and national media and supporters; • Demonstrate a commitment to continued learning/professional development (e.g., presentations, publications, serving on regional and/or national committees).

Primary Duties
1. Provide oversight of Messiah University Athletics visual identity and branding.
2. Supervise statistics collection at contests and maintain accurate statistical records.
3. Oversee reporting of scores and other results to appropriate media outlets.
4. Produce game recaps and other news items for placement on website and with appropriate media outlets.
5. Supervise operation of athletic websites (GoMessiah.com; GoMessiah.tv).
6. Supervise athletics photography for contests and special events.
7. Supervise videography and live streaming efforts of contests and special projects.
8. Operate athletics general social media accounts.
9. Coordinate production of publications including seasonal schedules, game programs, and NCAA programs.
10. Oversee student-athlete honors/awards (e.g., Hall of Honor, Senior Scholar Athletes).
11. Hire, train, and supervise student workers for athletic communications game operation positions.
12. Execute game day operation in coordination with the game day administrator.
13. Oversee the work of student-assistants, interns, and graduate assistants.
14. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
