What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Transformation and Strategic Projects position at Methodist Hospital?
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Hospital's President and CEO, the Director of Transformation and Strategic Projects (DTSP) provides leadership and oversight for transformation projects aligned with Hospital and Keck Medical System strategic goals. The DTSP facilitates, leads, and manages structured improvement initiatives, from large-scale transformational projects to focused improvement events. Supports the development of management mechanisms and systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts assessments and collaborates with the members of the hospital leadership team in selecting areas for projects. Collects data to support project selection criteria.
- Leads successful Lean Transformation projects and Rapid Improvement Events as determined by the department's operational plan to significantly improve staff engagement, improve quality outcomes, reduce costs, and enhance the patient /staff/clinical experience.
- Responsible for implementing, leading, and oversight of the hospital's daily Lean Operating System.
- Facilitates strategic decisions and provides leadership direction within the organization to optimize management of scope, financials, and schedule as it impacts project execution.
- Analyzes data obtained from numerous information systems and employs the judgment necessary to determine the Analyzes accuracy and applicability of the conclusions.
- Develops and leads training programs for physicians and staff in process improvement and project management techniques.
- Oversees or performs data collection and/or entry processes.
- Recommends and/or utilizes methods and procedures for data acquisition, management, and quality control as directed or as needed.
- Recommends and/or utilizes statistical techniques for data analysis, as directed or as needed.
- Resolves problems, answers questions, and provides information to facilitate related processes.
- Reports on ongoing metrics and resolution.
- Implements plans to improve performance, tracking key metrics and adjusting processes.
- Supports or leads the creation of dashboards and other tools to guarantee the sustainability of results.
- Under the direction of the Hospital President and CEO carries out special assignments related to staffing affairs and communications within the Hospital, the system, and the community.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Minimum (Required)
Degree in related field
Preferred (Not required)
Health Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or related fields.
Work Experience
Minimum (Required)
Experience leading Lean process improvement in a hospital with a proven track record of sustainable results.
Preferred (Not required)
- Experience leading Lean in an Academic Medical Center
- Extensive experience as a coach with improvement projects in wide variety of clinical settings.
Licenses and Certifications

Lean certification from a reputable source (University of Michigan, Theda Care, John Hopkins, Denver Health, etc.)
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (SKA’s)
- Proficient PC Skills
- Working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing and statistical software programs.
- Knowledge of business (operational, clinical, and financial) statistics and data analyses techniques.
- Ability to manage and analyze data.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Pay Transparency
The annual salary range for this position is $150,000.00 to $220,000.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California Arcadia Hospital considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, State, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
