Provide practical/hands-on and didactic training for Phlebotomist/Lab Collectors and other staff performing blood collection and processing and effectively assimilates new hires and students into laboratory setting and protocols. The Educator provides initial and follow-up and on-going training as well as competency assessments and introduction of new techniques and laboratory quality programs. What You Will Do
- Provides didactic and hands on training in in all areas of Phlebotomy (including students), Specimen Processing, Referrals and Anatomic Pathology services.
- Generate training guides and learning modules. Assesses trainee's performance and determine if competency has been achieved.
- Plans and follows through on Associate training from orientation through 6 month assessment and annual competency for all support areas in the lab.
- Serves as a role model/change agent to promote professional and technical development of Associates.
- Follows established procedures for laboratory quality assurance, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, safety, competency, and policies and procedures.
- Performs phlebotomy as needed according to protocol and safety standards.
- Demonstrates and promotes professional practice of all members of the care team.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1-3 years Phlebotomy
- Must have extensive knowledge of methods, skills, and procedures in performing venipuncture and Micro skin punctures blood collection.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of basic barcode label equipment, basic printers and copiers.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to perform basic calculations such as needed to calculate maximum blood collection.
- Ability to solve problems and to assist others to think through problems and arrive at logical conclusions.
- Ability to multi-task and logically organize thoughts and tasks to reasonably determine which tasks should be performed in logical order for best outcomes.
- Ability to organize and carry out large projects to conclusion.
- Ability to work under pressure to complete projects within time limits.
- Ability to lead others through processes and training steps.
- There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
