Vice President, Cloud Engineering and Enablement
Job Location: Cary, NC (Hybrid schedule: 3-days in the office)
The Role:
MetLife is seeking an experienced Vice President (VP), Cloud Engineering and Enablement to be a member of MetLife’s Global Technology leadership team. The VP, Cloud Engineering and Enablement will be responsible for end-to-end delivery and operations of Cloud. This role will manage critical foundational components for both the public and on- premise cloud environments, including, but not limited to, connectivity, subscription management, architectural framework, security, expense management and optimization, usage framework and governance, and cloud provider selection and management.
The VP, Cloud Engineering and Enablement will set the strategy on the evolution of MetLife’s cloud service offerings to mee the demands of the business. This position will partner closely with the heads of Architecture, Networking, Cybersecurity, as well as the Application Development teams to build and scale cloud adoption in MetLife. This position is key to advancing MetLife’s modernization and simplification agenda.
This executive will be an active participant in design reviews and technical walkthroughs.
Reporting to the Head of Global Platforms, the VP, Cloud Engineering and Enablement will lead FTE’s across the Cloud Engineering and Product management, Finops, Operations and Enablement teams.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Technology ownership, including strategy, architecture, engineering, financials, implementation and operations for the following IT infrastructure areas of focus:
- Cloud network connectivity
- CSP subscription management and access to Foundational Cloud technologies and platforms
- Vendor negotiation and contracting
- Cloud Automation and Devops
- Security through partnership with InfoSec, Infrastructure, and application owners
- Operational resiliency through design and execution
- Significant experience managing and operating hybrid cloud environments (on-prem, Azure, AWS, GCP) and cloud transformation and migration strategies and execution
- Leadership and talent management for the Cloud team
- Automation and self-service capabilities including IaC (“Infrastructure as Code”), cloud and virtualization automation, configuration and deployment automation such as Terraform, ARM, Chef, Ansible
- Containerization platforms and technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, and AKS
- Drive AI opportunities in Cloud infrastructure to enhance efficiency and drive growth
- Financial ownership to continue drive operational efficiency
- Meet and exceed MetLife’s financial commitment by identifying and achieving cost optimization opportunities through Finops, vendor / partner comparison and selection, deal negotiations, product consolidations and continuous innovations and automations

Candidate Profile:
This position requires an accomplished cloud infrastructure leader with a proven track record of leading people, aligning processes and technology in pursuit of strategic business outcomes through scale and optimization of cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have led and run End to End Cloud Function for a similarly scaled and complex global organization. The VP, Cloud Engineering and Enablement must have operated across both on-prem and cloud environments.
In keeping with MetLife’s culture, this executive must be a collaborative, hands-on, dynamic leader whose track record buys credibility across the IT function.
Qualifications:
- 15 years of experience working in global organizations with complex/matrix environments and/or financial services industries; must have appropriate technical expertise in cloud engineering and operations technology.
- Ability to create alignment and drive interest for the delivery, evolution and development of strategic public and on-premise cloud environment.
- Build relationships and collaborate across Architecture and Security organizations to establish appropriate practices and governance.
- Serve as a thought leader and strategic trusted partner with key stakeholders and vendor partners.
- Strong leadership skills required to re-imagine and build organizational capability while motivating teams to reach desired outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and collaboration skills.
