This impactful position will ensure full compliance across air, water, solid waste, and hazardous waste streams, while also driving forward sustainability initiatives aligned with enterprise-wide goals. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee environmental performance across air, effluent, solid and hazardous waste systems, supporting both the Columbus Mill and Columbus Modified Fiber operations.
- Direct environmental permitting and regulatory tracking activities, ensuring proactive compliance with evolving local, state, and federal regulations.
- Lead laboratory operations including pulp dryer quality testing and weekend rotational duties.
- Investigate environmental incidents, including near misses, and lead root cause analysis for preventative solutions.
- Guide a multidisciplinary team of environmental technicians and engineers, providing coaching, development, and performance management.
- Implement and support compliance projects and sustainability initiatives to meet corporate environmental objectives.
- Align site-level environmental strategies with broader corporate sustainability and operational goals.
- Manage consultants and technical resources to support accurate reporting and permit applications.
- Serve as the environmental liaison for interactions with regulatory bodies and internal corporate leadership.
- Promote employee engagement and culture-building to support safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible practices.
- Coordinate complex project deliverables and ensure timely submission of documentation and compliance reports.
- Drive measurable progress toward environmental benchmarks through data-driven process oversight.
Required Technical Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience within a manufacturing setting, with a strong focus in environmental compliance; forest products industry background is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of environmental reporting systems and regulatory programs (e.g., Title V, MACT, DMR).
- Expertise in air regulatory compliance and strong working knowledge of water, chemical, and waste management.
- Demonstrated success in leading multidisciplinary teams and driving performance in a collaborative environment.
- Effective communicator with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Adept at managing multiple priorities and driving continuous improvement in environmental operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
- Ability to lead and influence change in support of Vision 2030 goals around sustainability and EHS compliance.
