Position Title: Blood Bank Section Supervisor (MLS)
Position Summary
The Blood Bank Section Supervisor will manage daily operations within the Blood Bank department, providing leadership, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimizing workflows to support exceptional patient outcomes. This position combines supervisory responsibilities with technical expertise, serving patients across all age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the Blood Bank team to ensure efficient and compliant operations.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and direction to laboratory staff.
- Establish and monitor Quality Assurance processes to maintain accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance workflows and improve patient care.
- Ensure compliance with AABB standards, Joint Commission Laboratory requirements, and other applicable regulations.
- Manage inventory, testing, and storage of blood products, ensuring safety and traceability.
- Operate and maintain laboratory systems and automated equipment.
- Participate in strategic planning for the department, including staffing, performance evaluations, and training programs.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
- Certification as an MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist), MT (Medical Technologist), or CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist), with ASCP certification preferred.
- At least two years of experience in a Blood Bank setting, preferably within an acute care hospital or clinical environment.
- Familiarity with AABB standards and Joint Commission Laboratory requirements is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated expertise in Quality Assurance and laboratory compliance procedures.
- Proficiency with laboratory information systems and automated equipment.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a laboratory setting is an advantage.
