Blood Bank Section Supervisor (MLS)

Position Title: Blood Bank Section Supervisor
Position Summary
The Blood Bank Section Supervisor will oversee daily operations in the Blood Bank department, combining technical expertise with leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and optimized workflows. This role supports patient care across all age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations, contributing to exceptional outcomes in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the Blood Bank team to maintain efficient and compliant operations.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to laboratory staff, fostering professional development.
- Establish and monitor Quality Assurance (QA) processes to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to enhance workflows and patient care.
- Ensure compliance with AABB standards, Joint Commission Laboratory requirements, and other regulatory frameworks.
- Manage inventory, testing, and storage of blood products, ensuring safety, traceability, and regulatory compliance.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory systems and automated equipment.
- Contribute to strategic departmental planning, including staffing, performance evaluations, and training programs.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
- Certification: MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist), MT (Medical Technologist), or CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) certification (ASCP preferred).
- Experience: At least two years in a Blood Bank setting, ideally in an acute care hospital or clinical environment.
- Strong knowledge of AABB standards and Joint Commission Laboratory requirements (highly desirable).
- Demonstrated expertise in Quality Assurance and laboratory compliance.
- Proficiency with laboratory information systems and automated equipment.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Preferred: Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a laboratory setting.
