The Consultant assists others with all stages of the writing process, ranging from developmental course writing to professional writing. This position conducts orientation sessions and workshops throughout the year and performs administrative duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists students, faculty and staff with all stages of the writing process from developmental course writing to professional writing.
2. Completes documentation and corresponds with instructors regarding student visits.
3. Performs administrative duties such as scheduling, organizing outreach, or facilitating training sessions, as assigned.
4. Aids students with use of college technology resources.
5. Presents classroom orientation sessions.
6. Conducts writing-related workshops for students and faculty across the disciplines.
7. Facilitates discussions for faculty across the disciplines.
8. Assists faculty across the disciplines with writing assignment design.
9. Leads discussions and trainings at professional development gatherings.
10. Attends work activities or programs as scheduled or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Understanding of teaching, learning, and tutoring methodologies.
2. Ability to utilize tutorial software and Internet resources. Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn new software.
3. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
4. Excellent communication skills including active listening.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills.
6. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
7. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across academic support areas.
8. Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
9. Ability to demonstrate cooperation and professionalism while maintaining patience and understanding in stressful situations.
10. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

Master’s Degree with one year of teaching experience, preferably in composition, or one year of writing tutoring experience preferred.
