Summary
This position is responsible for a wide array of planned service change customer communications, including station-specific signs with travel alternatives. The manager is also responsible for designing and planning subway substitute shuttle bus service, including routing, running time, and mileage, providing specifications to the bus scheduling group.
 
Responsibilities
  • Manage development of high-quality service change notices and shuttle bus routes for subway service changes, balancing internal and external needs.
  • Analyze operational service plans and schedules for changes to subway service.
  • Evaluate public-facing messages for accuracy, clarity and utility.
  • Ensure timely layout, production and posting of materials.
  • Collaborate with other departments on service change communication strategy.
  • Recommend improvements based on field observations and feedback from operating departments and/or other stakeholders.
  • Motivate staff and provide prompt feedback on performance.
Education and Experience
A master’s degree in related major field of study: Transportation Management, Economics, Computer Science. Electrical Engineer or closely related field and five (5) years of full-time professional work experience in large rapid transit operations, two (2) years of which must have been in a managerial/ supervisory capacity
Or a satisfactory equivalent of education and experience

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, computer skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to negotiate competing requirements and create consensus,
  • Thorough knowledge of New York City subway and bus system, geography and demographics.
  • Knowledge of rail and bus operations and technology, transportation planning and track access logic / procedure.
