Job Description And Function
Under the direction of the CI Manager, the Continuous Improvement Specialist will support 6S and other lean projects as well as support the QMS auditing process by performing internal audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements. The CI Specialist will utilize problem-solving techniques, analytical thinking, and interpersonal dynamics.
Primary Responsibilities
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, stand, move throughout the facility, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and communicate. The employee must periodically lift or move up to 30 pounds. Work in office environment and use of computer (typical 2-button scroll mouse and keyboard - 75% of the work day). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment may be loud. Primary Responsibilities
- Work with all levels of the company to drive continual improvement in products and processes
- Record maintenance and report generation
- Quality and Lean projects as assigned
- Support managed projects: assist in the development and implementation to manufacturing
- Assist in QMS review via internal audits to ensure compliance with AS9100 and other industry standards and customer requirements
- Facilitate training as needed, including WSA training and new hire QMS training
- Respond to alerts and findings, carrying out corrective actions
- Explore and implement new tools, technologies and best practices (e.g. borescope capabilities/process improvement and others)
- Coordinate continuous improvement initiatives by assisting in the development of tools and resources (e.g. welding box and others)
- Work to troubleshoot, repair and replace tools and resources for overall process and performance improvement including carts, fixture holders, pin kits, etc.
- Monitors repair costs, materials, and time in various projects and tasks to identify additional improvement opportunities to reduce cost of poor quality (COPQ)
- Utilize Quality and Lean tools as appropriate to drive improvement: Value Stream Mapping (VSM), FMEA, Pareto, PDCA, 5-Why, 8D, 6S, Behavior Analysis, etc.
- Promote a continuous improvement culture across the organization
- Performs other duties as assigned or required by management
- Associate's degree in business or related field, or high school diploma plus 2 years of relevant experience
- At least two (2) years of progressive continuous improvement or quality experience
- Basic knowledge of quality and lean tools
- Must be organized and committed to meeting deadlines
- Must meet ITAR definition of US Person(s)-documentation required
- Knowledge of aerospace quality standards including AS9100
- Working knowledge of Meyer QMS
- Excellent speaking, listening, and written communication skills in English
- Basic understanding of process improvement techniques and experience in application of the same
- Work well with limited supervision
- Must have the ability to inspire and motivate employees at all levels
- Ability to present and train in a competent, efficient manner in dealing with the various levels of company personnel
- Know and understand the needs of internal and external customers
- Participate in learning new technologies and career development opportunities as presented to facilitate progression and growth within the team
- Excellent attendance in adherence to MTI attendance policy
- Able to prioritize and follow up accordingly with a sense of urgency
- Ability to work in fast paced team environment with a strong commitment to accountability
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office
- MTI is a safety sensitive manufacturer. As such, successful results of pre-employment drug and background screening will be required
- Must have the ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally without restriction and, upon request prior to travel, must be able to provide any documentation that may be required by the country of destination
