ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Active participation in and support of Camp activities including, but not limited to:

Successful complete ALL training during the orientation week, prior to starting camp.

Plans daily meet and greet activities for your group to ensure that everyone feels included and knows their fellow campers and counselors.

Participates in activities as a role model for our campers. Lead by example.

Participates in the theme of each week, including dressing accordingly and preparing theme-related activities for your cabin.

Encourages all your campers to participate in themed activities such as dress up days.

Provides supportive leadership for the MCDS Summer Auxiliary Program Staff.

Be supportive of all staff .
-
Ability to follow the safety procedures outlined in the MCDS Emergency Operations Plan.
Qualifications
Daily Camp Operations and Safety & Well-Being of Campers:
-
Reports at 8:00 am daily for morning meeting, equipment setup & preparation for instruction.

Takes attendance each day and conduct head counts before every activity begins and after every activity ends throughout day.

Responsible for the general well-being and safety of all campers in your cabin. This includes sharing safety information and checking campers for bug bites, scrapes, etc. that may occur during the day.

Provides positive leadership and guidance to all members of your cabin. This includes patience, good communication, speaking clearly and NOT shouting at campers.

Assists campers in your cabin with daily procedures, including ensuring they have all their belongings after every activity.

Assists campers with preparation and accompanying campers to their activities on time, and in an orderly fashion with multiple head counts.

Actively participate in specialty activities and help the specialty counselors where necessary.

Ensures that any parent communication goes through the camp office, NOT direct to parents.

Ensures you have sufficient supplies for rainy day cabin games, available on request.

Plans and executes fun, engaging activities in your cabin when there is a rain delay. Screen time (tvs, tablets etc) is NOT permitted!!

Plans and executes fun, age-appropriate activities for the members of your cabin, when they are not scheduled in another activity, or are scheduled for Counselors Choice.

Communicates camper concerns of illness or injury to staff nurse and camp director
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
While performing this role, this employee may be required to lift up to 30 lbs, move around with full use of limbs and use all five senses to complete his/her responsibilities.
May work long hours for extended periods of time.
Works in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Excellent leadership skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Must be punctual.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Additional language skill is a bonus
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Able to work with multiple age-groups and in different environments (indoor, outdoor)
- Must have an ability to display patience and care for every child, no matter the situation
- College degree preferred
- 5 years of camp experience/activity leadership comprised of experience as a camper or a CIT, minimum 1 year experience as a Camp Counselor
- 3 years experience in activities program creation, execution and hosting
- Must work well with varying age groups of children
Start Date: June 9, 2025

7 consecutive weeks of camp from June 9 - July 25

June 9-14: Staff Training (Mandatory)

No Camp: June 19 and July 4

Camp hours: Monday Friday = Full camp days 8:00 am 4:10 pm *hours may be scheduled on an as-needed basis, pending program activities/needs, with at least one 30 minute breaks daily.

Expected 37.5 hours/week unless otherwise agreed upon with the Camp Director.

Uniform is required daily (except when noted as otherwise) including camp shirt, camp cap, Navy Blue or Black Bermuda shorts, watch, sneakers and, of course, a fun, positive attitude and smile.

Use of tobacco, drugs and/or alcohol during employment is prohibited.

Personal use of technology (including smartphones, tablets, personal computers) is not permitted during camp hours without direct permission from the Camp Director (unless on a personal break, away from campers).
