The Part-Time Instructional Assistant I supports the Learning Resources department and provides instructional support to users.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Enforces, maintains and explains MDC and Learning Resources policies and procedures to users
- Explains to users how to navigate the Learning Resources website, databases, and use basic research tools
- Assists users at the service desk by circulating materials and answering questions both face-to-face and remotely (social media, chat, email)
- Assists with a Learning Resources service function; such as, interlibrary loan, circulation, serials, and tutoring
- Assists faculty and students with the basic use of the facility including hardware and software
- Collaborates with faculty to maintain special collections or items for students; such as, reserves, circulation, room reservations, instructional appointments and anatomy models
- Assists with student informational workshops and other educational activities for Learning Resources
- Conducts routine maintenance, troubleshooting and the preparation of physical space including hardware and software
- Assists in gathering data for statistical reports
- Creates and maintains a schedule for student assistants and part-time staff
- Assists with payroll for student assistants and part-time staff
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- One year of college (30 credits) from a regionally accredited institution and one year of work experience in a related field, i.e., computer lab setting, library, or media services network; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, departmental software applications and basic research methodology
- Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to read and interpret documents and procedure manuals
- Ability to perform standard equipment set-ups
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Advanced ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relations with students, faculty and administration
- Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
