Michael Best Strategies ("Strategies") is seeking an Sr. Policy Advisor to join our Washington, D.C. office. Sr. Policy Advisors are mid-level staffers primarily responsible for facilitating client services and managing certain administrative functions. This is a hybrid position with the ability to work from home and in the office.

What You'll Be Doing

Client Servicing:

  • Assist Client Leads in devising and executing client-specific business strategies.
  • Support Client Leads in meetings with Administration officials, Legislators, and staff on clients’ behalf. This includes working with Policy Analysts to schedule and follow up for such meetings and ensuring meeting attendees are supplied with necessary supplemental information.
  • Work with Policy Analysts to track progress of client priorities and projects.
  • Work directly with clients to ensure there is always a clear line of communication between Strategies and the client.
  • Collaborate with Policy Analysts to prepare agendas for meetings, informational documents, memorandums, analyses, and other materials to assist Client Leads in servicing clients.
  • Assist in creating sales proposals and attend sales pitches to assist and learn the sales process.

Completing a broad variety of tasks, including.

  • Prepare and deliver proposals & engagement letters, as well as other client onboarding materials.
  • Oversight and managements of all internal client onboarding processes including, but not limited to, conflict checks, compliance requirements, and New Business Intake forms.
  • Work closely with Policy Analysts to make sure all client deliverables from meeting notes are covered by the team and proper feedback is given to their work.
  • Sr. Policy Advisors are expected to commit to building and maintaining a network of relationships in the Legislature and the Administration, as well as the industries and markets in which they work.
  • Sr. Policy Advisors are expected to build and maintain a personal brand and reputation by participating in various professional associations and other opportunities to advance the Strategies brand.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge Base & Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant legislative and government affairs experience in the public and/or private sectors.

  • Ability to learn and embrace new skills and best practices as the position evolves and Firm needs change
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team

  • Ability to develop relationships and foster teamwork at all levels of the Firm

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff

  • Ability and confidence to identify and analyze issues, make decisions, and initiate actions/solutions
  • Ability to respond to unexpected challenges, including proactively developing innovative solutions to complex problems while maintaining a professional demeanor

Other:

  • Valid authorization to work in the U.S.

For District of Columbia applicants only (as required by the Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023): The annual compensation range for this position in our DC office is between $125,000 and $175,000. Compensation is determined based on qualifications and experience. This position is considered full-time and is therefore eligible to participate in employer-sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, vision, as well as elective/voluntary life, disability, and accident coverage. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in the firm's 401k plan.
