SUPERVISES : K entering Grade 1
JOB GOAL : To support Kindergarten students with reading and writing skills needed to successfully
transition into First Grade.
Selected summer school teachers will work with families to identify an educational delivery
approach that accommodates the families of children in their districts. Screen time should be
balanced with learning that occurs offline and encourages authentic and hands-on learning
experiences. It is developmentally inappropriate to expect all learning to be screen based. All
students will receive a learning kit prior to the start of camp.
Students will be engaged in interactive, meaningful literacy experiences through daily read
alouds and shared readings. They will gain important pre-reading/writing concepts such as
print awareness, phonological awareness, letter/sound knowledge, oral language, vocabulary,
comprehension, and writing fluency.
- Administering pre and post assessments
- Planning and provide daily effective instructional activities/lessons for each day of camp
- Planning appropriate instruction based on assessment/s and to support student need
- Maintaining lesson plans
- Providing activities (using the learning kits) that families can do with their children each week. Simple is best!
- Establishing a consistent weekly check-in time (remote option) with each of the families. During this time the
available to answer questions, provide support, guidance and resources
- Encouraging families to read daily with their children
It is imperative that chosen teachers are truly comfortable with the outlined remote learning plan and possess the
energy and enthusiasm to make a difference in a short time. The social emotional development of all young children is
the key to maximizing the benefits of educational experiences at any time. Ensuring children are supported emotionally
during this time of uncertainty is the foundation of any instruction we may provide.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :
One 5-week session: July 7th – August 7th
Teachers will work from 8:30 to 11:30 am (24 days) for instructional time with 30 minutes of supervision before and 30
minutes of supervision after, 1 hour planning time per day.
- Contracted through MISD or Fraser
- July 7th-August 7th- (Mon-Thurs, 4 days/week) – Week of July 1-4 off
- 8:00 am-12:00 pm
- Teachers will attend a training session – (Registration information will be given at a later date)
- one day set-up(5 hours)
- $45.00/hour paid by the FPS
SALARY : $45.00 per hour
