We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Tool and Die Maker to join our team. The Tool and Die Maker will be responsible for fabricating, maintaining, and repairing tools, dies, and other equipment used in the production process. This role focuses on manual machining (not CNC) and requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all established safety practices, policies, and procedures as outlined in plant and corporate directives to ensure safe and effective work performance.
- Receive and interpret verbal instructions, blueprints, and work orders to accurately assess job requirements.
- Analyze and calculate dimensions, indices, tapers, and other specifications based on part drawings to ensure precision in machining.
- Perform layout work to prepare parts for machining and establish setups.
- Select, grind, and adjust tools for optimal speeds and feed rates, ensuring parts meet precise tolerance and finish requirements.
- Set up and operate manual machine tools, including lathes, grinders, mills, and sheet metal forming equipment.
- Perform dismantling, fitting, or assembly work required for maintenance or production equipment.
- Repair and maintain all assigned machines and equipment to ensure optimal operational efficiency.
- Fabricate parts and components as needed to meet production specifications.
- Input, retrieve, and manage data in computer systems for accurate tracking of work and machine performance.
- Follow and review all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the area of responsibility to ensure consistent and compliant practices.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical education or certifications are a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of job-related experience in tool and die making or a similar manual machining role.
- Strong working knowledge of standard machine shop and tool and die practices.
- Familiarity with metallurgy, heat treatment, welding, brazing, and other relevant processes used in tool and die making.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and other manufacturing documents.
- Proficient in operating grinders, lathes, drill presses, and other machine shop equipment with precision to tolerances
- Thorough understanding of the operating principles of assigned equipment and the ability to adapt and modify machining techniques as necessary.
- Ability to perform complex machining tasks, selecting and adjusting tools, and applying appropriate techniques for specific part requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions under minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of hazardous waste management and environmental, health, and safety requirements, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and other hazards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery.
- Forklift certification and experience with material handling.
- Familiarity with ERP systems or maintenance tracking software.
Working Conditions:
This position involves exposure to occupational hazards, including heavy machinery, high noise levels, and chemicals. Employees are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and other necessary gear, and follow all safety protocols.
