Job purpose
The Junior Accountant is responsible for managing daily accounting tasks such as recording and maintaining accurate financial information. Team members in this position will support the financial department by working to maintain order and transparency for the company’s finances. Daily work will largely consist of updating accounts receivable and accounts payable, reconciliations, posting and processing journal entries, and assisting with projects as determined by the Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate should be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers with attention to detail. If any tasks are unable to be completed in the recommended timeframe, it is the responsibility of the Junior Accountant to report this information to the Accounting Manager. The goal is to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department and help the company be fully aware of its financial condition to aid decision-making processes and accomplish long-term success. This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding of company policy, procedures, and values.
Duties and
- Update accounts receivable including payment application and billback processing
- Update accounts payable by completing payments and controlling expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices
- Charge expenses to accounts and departments by analyzing invoice/expense reports and recording entries
- Post and process journal entries
- Assist in reviewing expenses and revenue as assigned
- Timely input of financial data in databases to ensure accurate information is available when needed
- Prepare statements, payments, deposits, and mail
- Prepare reports as needed
- Assist with closing financial periods
- Assist with financial reconciliations as needed
- Protects organizations value by keeping information confidential
- Maintain accounting files
- Assist with accounting projects as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Previous accounting experience preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant field preferred
- Attention to detail
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization, time management skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Good analytical judgement and works well with numbers and figures
- Understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices

- Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software
Working conditions/Physical Requirements
This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments. This position operates mainly in an office environment however may be exposed to multiple work environments, including manufacturing plant environment and laboratory environment.
In the plant environment, the team member may be exposed to noise, heat and other elements both inside and outside. While performing the duties of this position, the team member will be exposed to moving, mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and will be exposed to chemicals.
Typical hours are 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday with overtime as needed for workload.
Specific physical requirements include:
- Occasionally lifting weight up to (60) sixty pounds
- Climbing flights of stairs
- Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than sixty (60) sixty pounds
- Sitting for extended periods of time
