Position Overview
The Community Educator is responsible for developing and delivering financial education programs to diverse populations, focusing on topics such as budgeting, saving, credit management, and debt reduction. This individual will develop and manage the financial literacy program for the organization. The Community Educator will create educational materials, facilitate learning programs, teach train-the-trainer sessions, and track program outcomes to ensure effectiveness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages the financial literacy curriculum to be used by Mid Penn Bank employees to instruct workshops and classes throughout the Bank’s geographical footprint.
- Builds, maintains, and administers Mid Penn Bank’s financial literacy program, MPB Classroom, to offer financial literacy services to our customers and our communities as well as work with various departments and areas within the Bank to ensure financial wellness initiatives are meeting our standards across all areas.
- Tailors financial education programs to meet the needs of diverse audiences, including youth, seniors, business owners, among others.
- Provides leadership and guidance to staff, volunteers, and board members in alignment with the organization’s financial wellness initiatives’ values and goals; supervises staff volunteers during financial wellness event days and coordinates oversite of planning process/training meetings.
- Utilizes information and presentations provided by external resources invested in by the organization.
- Stays current on financial literacy trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to incorporate into program offerings.
- Conducts educational workshops, meetings, classes, and training related to various financial literacy topics including but not limited to budgeting, debt consolidation, retirement planning, and other financial topics.
- Designs and develops educational materials including presentations, handouts, and digital content on various financial topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, debt management, and more.
- Develops internal training and instruction for Mid Penn Bank employees to equip them with the tools, resources, and information to be able to share MPB Classroom with their community.
- Works with and connects with MPB calling officers, financial center managers, and cash management officers, and others for the purpose of business development with local non-profits and schools.
- Attends community events to promote MPB Classroom to school educators, human services organizations, and other community groups.
- Collaborates with community organizations, schools, nonprofits, and government agencies to expand financial education outreach.
- Helps facilitate Workplace Banking events.
- Provides information on MPB Classroom to prospective customers.
- Collaborates with Marketing team on promotion of financial literacy initiatives such as Financial Literacy Month (April) among others.
- Tracks performance of financial education initiatives for reporting to executive team and board.
- Ensures all financial literacy programs and materials comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Education & Qualifications
- A B.S. or B.A. degree in Business, Education, Finance or a related field of study preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years’ experience in curriculum development and delivery normally required. Previous teaching, training, community outreach, and/or advanced banking experience strongly preferred.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends as needed.
- Travel throughout the entire Bank footprint is required.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation); adept at explaining complex financial concepts in a clear and engaging manner; advanced interpersonal skills (able to engage with a variety of people in varying settings), represents the organization in a professional manner; proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; advanced ability to manage multiple priorities, including strong time management and project management skills; proficient with MS Office Software; strong group facilitation skills, ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands or arms, use hands to manipulate objects, handle or feel, and lift items weighing 40 lbs. or less; visual, auditory and speaking skills; valid driver’s license is required.
