Job Summary
Peer Mentors will provide confidential peer-to-peer mentoring for the upcoming semester. Peer Mentors will support and encourage students with their academic and personal acclimation to Middle Georgia State University. Assistance will include, but is not limited to, orienting assigned students to campus, connecting students with academic support centers, modeling good study skills, and helping students stay abreast of faculty expectations (as outlined in syllabi). Peer Mentors will provide semester-long support and encouragement.
Responsibilities
- Complete mandatory training and attend Peer Mentor Training online or on the Macon campus.
- Work closely with instructors, the Writing Center¿s staff, the MARC¿s staff and the Student Success centers¿ staff.
- Mentors may hold group mentoring sessions during events or designated classes.
- Offer personalized guidance and support to students enrolled in programs that the mentor has experience in.
- Accompany assigned students to initial tutoring sessions
- Provide one-on-one mentoring sessions which will be face-to-face and/or virtual
- Communicate with mentees weekly through MGA email, Microsoft Teams, or other approved methods
- Educate assigned students about campus resources, study skills, and research strategies
- Document and keep accurate records of mentoring sessions with students
- Attend and assist with campus/university events to promote academic preparation and campus resources.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a currently enrolled MGA Student
- Must be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
- Must be able to work up to 8 hours each week
- Must comply with strict confidentiality of information
- Cannot be enrolled in Learning Support courses
