POSITION SUMMARY
MIDLAND is the largest independently-owned fine paper and packaging distributors in the country. Our well-established organization is seeking an Outside Sales Representatives for our paper division. This hands-on position will be required to develop new business and manage those key accounts in the central and western part of Wisconsin. The incumbent will possess in depth knowledge of packaging and will maximize profit by promoting and selling paper products and value added service offered by Midland within assigned territory.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Develop new business, manage those accounts and ensure repeat business, customer satisfaction within assigned territory.
- Develop sales strategies and set sales targets.
- Monitor market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales.
- Answer customers' questions about products, prices, availability, product uses, and credit terms.
- Recommend products to customers, based on customers' needs and interests and provide customers with product samples and catalogs.
- Contact regular and prospective customers to demonstrate products, explain product features, and solicit orders.
- Estimate or quote prices, credit or contract terms, warranties, and delivery dates.
- Negotiate details of contracts and payments, and prepare sales contracts and order forms.
- Consult with clients after sales or contract signings to resolve problems and to provide ongoing support.
- Prepare drawings, estimates, and bids that meet specific customer needs.
- Arrange and direct delivery and installation of products and equipment.
- Identify prospective customers by using Hoovers, following leads from existing clients, participating in trade organizations, and attending trade shows and conferences.
- Perform administrative duties, such as preparing sales budgets and reports, keeping sales records, and filing expense account reports.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree preferred but not required
- 7 years previous sales experience in the packaging industry, territory sales and account management
- Proven record of opening new accounts
- Proven record of selling value
- Strong understanding or experience within the distribution industry
- Ability to work independently
- Savvy with technology - knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and MS Outlook
- A strong general knowledge of business and customer service
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Professional office environment. Greater than 80% of time spent preparing for and calling on customers. Travel overnight to mills/manufacturers, trade shows, training sessions, and customers.
Equipment: Personal computer, laser/ink jet printer, calculator, telephone/cellular phone, fax, copier, pager, and personal transportation.
