Modern Worship Leader Job Description
The Part-Time Modern Worship Leader at Midway Methodist is responsible for planning, rehearsing, and leading modern (contemporary) worship in coordination with the pastor, tech team, and volunteer musicians. This role involves selecting appropriate worship music, cultivating a meaningful worship experience for the congregation, and ensuring that all technical elements are prepared and executed effectively.
Primary Responsibilities
- Music Selection & Preparation
- Select modern worship songs each week that align with the sermon theme and church’s overall vision.
- Coordinate song keys, arrangements, and setlists to suit the band’s capabilities and create a cohesive worship flow.
- Distribute music and resources (e.g., chord charts, lyric sheets) to the band and tech team in a timely manner.
- Midweek Rehearsal
- Schedule and lead a weekly rehearsal (1–2 hours) for vocalists, instrumentalists, and relevant tech volunteers.
- Provide musical direction, prayer, and encouragement during rehearsals, fostering both spiritual and musical growth.
- Collaborate with volunteers to ensure each participant is prepared for Sunday’s service.
- Sunday Worship Leadership
- Arrive before service to oversee setup and soundcheck with the tech team.
- Lead worship alongside the band, engaging the congregation in active participation and praise.
- Ensure worship transitions smoothly between songs and service elements.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Interface with the Pastor to plan worship themes, special services, and integrate the worship set with the sermon series.
- Work with the Tech Team to coordinate sound, lighting, slides, and livestream details.
- Maintain clear communication with the church office regarding song lists, lyrics, and announcements.
- Attend occasional staff or planning meetings as needed (via phone, Zoom, or in person).
- Spiritual and Relational Leadership
- Model a Christ-centered lifestyle, consistent with the mission and values of Midway Methodist.
- Encourage a spirit of unity, respect, and mutual support among team members.
- Refrain from gossip or negative talk, instead promoting a culture of open, direct communication and peacemaking (Matthew 18:15–17).
- Actively pray for and nurture the spiritual growth of the worship team.
Qualifications
- Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ and a desire to lead others in authentic worship.
- Musical Proficiency in leading modern worship (vocal and/or instrumental). Ability to direct volunteer musicians.
- Basic Knowledge of Sound/AV equipment and software (e.g., ProPresenter, soundboards) is beneficial.
- Strong Communication Skills to coordinate with volunteers, staff, and congregation members effectively.
- Organizational Skills to plan rehearsals, setlists, and coordinate technical needs.
- Familiarity with Methodist/Wesleyan theology is preferred (or willingness to learn).
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.40 - $18.81 per hour
Expected hours: 3 – 5 per week
