Midwest Refrigerated Services Fleet Operations Manager is responsible for leading business objectives throughout Midwest Refrigerated Transport's (MRT) operations. This involves focusing on key performance indicators relating to on-time delivery, on-time reporting, and equipment. The Fleet Operations Manager is responsible for mentoring and communicating with all levels of the operation. The Fleet Operations Manager should create and foster a collaborative work environment with customers and suppliers in support of the daily operations.

General Accountabilities include:
- Enforces and demonstrates safe practice and procedures, ongoing daily monitoring of safety and quality
- Works closely with the driver managers in Transportation and Maintenance to ensure the effective assigning, scheduling and dispatching of personnel and vehicles
- P&L accountability for MRT Fleet
- Maximize fleet margins through creative planning and customer negotiations
- Leads continuous improvement efforts
- Provide leadership for department while supporting company policy and business direction
- Development of department business plan strategies to align with corporate short-and long-term goals
- Coordinate activities between divisions, customers, and support groups to meet plans
- Enhance KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) and metrics to monitor business to assure targets are achieved
- Negotiations of yearly cost with customers while developing existing and new business opportunities and objectives
- Conduct customer visits and meetings
- Performs functions as well as lead and mentor operations staff and drivers for transportation planning/implementation of processes throughout all MRT operations
- Work to meet customers’ expectations and fulfill their needs by maintaining communication and good rapport
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and sustains trust with peers and customers
- Must be available for weekend and after-hours fleet support and coverage
Skills Required:
- Demonstrate positive labor relations skills with the ability to develop effective relationships
- Strong computer skills including but not limited to all Microsoft Office programs and transportation/fleet management systems (Orbcomm & Samsara)
- Excellent communication, presentation, planning, and organization skills
- Excellent customer service skills, including dealing with difficult situations
- Creative analytical skills - Strong knowledge of problem solving and root cause analysis for total supply chain
- Leverage technology and know-how to create efficiencies and streamline focus on quality, service, and safety
- Exceptional negotiation skills
Prerequisites:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in related field
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years transportation management coupled with solid business acumen related to logistics and FMCA/DOT/HOS requirements
- Experience supervising independent contractor drivers (minimum of 2 years)
- Experience using an automated TMS system (preferred)
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications
