Job Summary:
The Police Crisis Co-Responder partners with law enforcement to provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, mental health assessments, and resource referrals for individuals in behavioral health crises, aiming to divert them from unnecessary incarceration or hospitalization by connecting them to community-based services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond with police officers to behavioral health-related calls.
- Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, mental health professionals, and community organizations to connect individuals to services.
- Assist with referrals to mental health treatment, substance use programs, and social services.
- Conduct follow-up visits and wellness checks.
- Maintain accurate documentation per department and state regulations.
- Participate in mental health training for law enforcement.
- Advocate for better access to mental health and crisis services.
Qualifications:
- Required: Master’s in Social Work (MSW) with PA Social Work License (LSW or LCSW), or related experience with ability to obtain MSW and PA Social Work License within 3 years.
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university preferably in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years in crisis intervention, mental health, social work, or related fields.
- Strong communication, crisis management, and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred:
- Experience with law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of PA mental health laws and trauma-informed care.
- Experience with substance use disorder treatment.
Special Requirements:
- Valid PA driver’s license with clean record.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments.
- Compliance with HIPAA regulations and departmental policies.
