Job Summary:
The Police Crisis Co-Responder partners with law enforcement to provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, mental health assessments, and resource referrals for individuals in behavioral health crises, aiming to divert them from unnecessary incarceration or hospitalization by connecting them to community-based services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond with police officers to behavioral health-related calls.
  • Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, mental health professionals, and community organizations to connect individuals to services.
  • Assist with referrals to mental health treatment, substance use programs, and social services.
  • Conduct follow-up visits and wellness checks.
  • Maintain accurate documentation per department and state regulations.
  • Participate in mental health training for law enforcement.
  • Advocate for better access to mental health and crisis services.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Master’s in Social Work (MSW) with PA Social Work License (LSW or LCSW), or related experience with ability to obtain MSW and PA Social Work License within 3 years.
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university preferably in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years in crisis intervention, mental health, social work, or related fields.
  • Strong communication, crisis management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of PA mental health laws and trauma-informed care.
  • Experience with substance use disorder treatment.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid PA driver’s license with clean record.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments.
  • Compliance with HIPAA regulations and departmental policies.
