Job Summary/Basic Function
MU CAMP Peer Mentors provide supportive services to incoming MU CAMP freshmen throughout their first year at the university. Peer Mentors are a support system, a friend, an advocate, and a caring role model
Required Qualifications
- Completed freshmen year as an MU CAMP participant
- Completed at least 24 credits
- Available to work during the Fall and Spring semesters including evening and weekends when necessary
- Good communication skills
- Works well with others
- Have good judgment
- Responsible, dependable, and organized
- Enjoys working with diverse peers
- Sensitive to cultural differences
- Currently enrolled Millersville University student
- Must complete 3 required clearances (PA Criminal Background, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints).
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum GPA 3.0
- Bilingual or multilingual
Job Duties
- Meet with each mentee at least one time per week to check in on their academic progress, adherence to CAMP requirements, and emotional/social well being
- Assist mentees in meeting with professors, scheduling classes, accessing resources, buying books, completing financial aid/FAFSA, searching for scholarships, and other needs as they arise
- Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with mentees and CAMP staff
- Accurately document services provided to mentees in program provided by CAMP staff
- Encourage mentees to connect with peers, classmates, professors, and other university staff
- Encourage mentees to attend university events and get involved in areas of interest
- Supervise 1-2 evening study sessions at the CAMP Student Center from 4pm-7pm
- Be able to set and maintain boundaries with mentees
- Attend CAMP and university meetings and events as scheduled
- Maintain and report work hours
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Be able to text, call, message, or email mentees
- Be able to meet with mentees in person on campus
- Must have dependable transportation to MU
