The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) Agency Finance Division is looking for a Grant System Manager and lead worker to join the Accounting Services Unit. As a Grant System Manager and lead worker, you will be responsible for managing the agency’s Minnesota Education Grant System (MEGS) in supporting application submissions, amendments, approval and issuance of grant award notifications, processing of payments against grant awards through reimbursement requests from the Minnesota Department of Education. In addition, this position will act as a liaison among stakeholders in order to understand the structure, policies and operations of the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and MEGS and to be able to recommend solutions to enable projects to be successful and goals to be met and be the point of contact between vendors, MNIT, and the Agency, managing relationships, prioritizing and implementing system improvements.
The grant system manager works with Steering Team members by guiding, consulting, and collaborating on the development, testing, deployment and adoption of solutions. The position coordinates and provides agency-wide oversight, guidance as a technical expertise to the MDE agency-wide approach to federal and state funding awarded in MEGS. This position is focused on being an expert resource administration-wide for understanding the grant management system in order to inform decision-making and policy development at the highest levels.

Three (3) years of comprehensive accounting experience working for a business or governmental entity.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or other closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one (1) year of experience; Master’s degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience.
- Lead work experience, including directing and assigning work and coaching or training staff.
- Grants management experience, includes managing federal or non-federal funding.
- Experience with large-scale accounting systems, preparing and reviewing fiscal reports sufficient to identify problems quickly, research and evaluate relevant issues and formulate solutions.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software or similar software including Excel, with demonstrated knowledge of procedures and techniques validating data in such software.
- Planning skills sufficient to plan and organize large projects, prioritize tasks, and make recommendations or decisions on the direction of projects.
- Ability to analyze program requirements, policies, regulations, and procedures to develop and implement improvements.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with teams and various stakeholders with ability to communicate, present information, and explain policies clearly and professionally to internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with the state of Minnesota Financial Systems Statewide Integrate Financial Tools (SWIFT) and Oracle Business Intelligent Enterprise Edition (OBIEE).
- A bachelor’s degree in business finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, anticipate barriers, and adapt to overcome challenges with a user-focused mindset.
