The Division of Forestry is seeking to fill a Buildings and Grounds Worker in Willow River. This position exists to provide building and grounds maintenance at the General Andrews site; assist the Federal Excess Property Program (FEPP) with various tasks as needed and maintain the site training facility.

Responsibilities include:

  • Clean and maintain the training center, shop and office buildings at General Andrews including bathrooms, offices and common spaces.
  • Provide assistance to fire departments by loading and unloading equipment, providing correspondence with fire departments, answering questions, and keeping records and paperwork required for transactions.
  • Assist with excess property disposal preparations and maintain shop and equipment yard.
  • Perform duties as assigned by either the supervisor or Rural Fire Program lead worker.

This position requires the strength and agility necessary to load, operate and repair medium sized equipment and materials; and the endurance necessary to perform tasks under extreme environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, snow and wind.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in building and grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of motorized equipment sufficient to operate trucks, forklifts, graders, tractors, and farm implements in a safe and effective manner.
  • Skills to perform routine maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to operate medium motorized equipment and combinations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing routine maintenance and repair of small engines, vehicles, and other equipment and tools.
  • A minimum of one year wildland fire or fire department experience. Completion of S130/190 or Basic Structure Firefighter (NFPA 1001 or equivalent).
  • Experience operating operate trucks, forklifts, graders, tractors and/or farm implements.
  • Recordkeeping skills.
  • First Aid and CPR training.
  • Current chainsaw license.
  • Resource management experience including mechanical and chemical methods to control noxious and invasive species.

Additional Requirements

This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record.
