The First Judicial District is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time highly organized and detailed oriented Temporary Court Operations Clerk to join the Dakota County Court Administration team in Apple Valley, MN.

This position will focus on hosting zoom court hearings, processing court orders and documents, assisting customers at the front counter, reviewing and processing reports, and assisting with general office needs. This temporary position is expected to last until June 30, 2026.

The primary work location for this position is in the Civil/Family Division at the Dakota County Western Service Center in Apple Valley, MN 55124. Standard hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Reimbursable travel to train or work at other Dakota County Court facilities may be required, including Dakota County Judicial Center in Hastings, MN and Dakota County Northern Service Center in West St. Paul, MN.

What You Will Do 

The following are examples of major job duties expected of this position: 

  • Performs routine and/or limited scope court operations work, which may include scanning and/or imaging documents, data entry, retrieving and filing case files and documents, and/or responding to requests for information.
  • Receives and responds to questions and requests for information from the general public, attorneys, and court employees; provides requested information in accordance with applicable policies, laws, and procedures; issues receipts for payment of court fees; checks people in for court; assists public in filling out various applications and forms; prepares certified and plain copies of court records upon request.
  • Performs filing and retrieval of paper records, exhibits, electronic records, and electronic or digital records of legal or other proceedings; sets up and maintains documents, files, records, and reports relating to court activities; indexes and files a variety of records; inputs, updates, or deletes information in electronic case management system; copies, scans, and distributes documents including imaging original documents into digital files; assigns appropriate security levels for documents; manages, handles, indexes, stores, maintains, returns, and/or destroys court exhibits and documents per policies and procedures.
  • May provide assistance to others in performing courtroom operation duties, including clerking hearings, scheduling hearings, working calendars, and assisting staff with in-court updating.
  • Utilizes applicable technology (i.e., operating and information systems and/or programs) and office equipment to perform and complete work assignments.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Six months of recent experience in general clerical work

Nice to Have 

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
  • Experience working in Minnesota Court Information System (MNCIS) the Minnesota Judicial Branch electronic case processing system
  • Experience working in a high-volume customer service environment

  • Ability to accurately enter data and update records.
  • Ability to maintain an accurate record filing system.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and files appropriately and in compliance with all applicable court rules, policies, and statutes.
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside of the Judicial Branch.

This is a Teamsters CAT represented position and is posted for both internal and external application. Application deadline for internal candidates is Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 11:59PM and external candidates is Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 11:59PM. Only current Teamsters CAT represented employees are eligible for internal consideration. 

The expected starting salary range for external candidates is $18.95 - $24.15 per hours ($39,567.60 - $50,425.20 annually) based on qualifications. The full salary range for this position is $18.95 - $29.34 per hour ($39,567.60 - $61,261.92 annually). This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of MN employee benefits.
