Position Summary
The Property Accountant will lead corporate and property-level accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance across MJW’s diverse portfolio. This role is crucial for supporting day-to-day financial operations, including month-end close, cash management, and payroll entries. The Property Accountant will ensure the integrity of financial data within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Operations:
- Prepare financials, journal entries, working papers and analysis for monthly, quarterly and year-end close.
- Manage the internal accounting needs for commercial development properties/commercial construction projects.
- Manage the internal accounting needs for commercial operating properties.
- Collaborate with the Asset Manager to prepare and analyze monthly close financial reports.
- Maintain organized, accurate, and up-to-date records for all accounting transactions and reports.
- Help improve accounting processes internally and externally with clients.
- Perform accounting conversions from QuickBooks/MAS into Yardi.

Corporate & Property-Level Accounting:
- Ensure compliance with appropriate general ledger (GL) codes and financial processes across the portfolio.
- Monitor vendor accounts to minimize past-due payments and manage vendor relationships.
- Prepare annual business and personal property tax returns, renew business licenses, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Create and customize budgets, forecasts, and ad-hoc reports for clients
- Cash Management:
- Oversee property-level cash management, ensuring funds are available for day-to-day operations while optimizing asset performance.
- Manage payroll journal entries and ensure timely processing of payroll.
- Audit and Tax Coordination:
- Interface with external auditors and tax accountants, preparing schedules and reports as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and contribute to periodic audits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- 3-5 years of full cycle accounting or audit experience including private industry and/or public accounting.
- Extensive experience with accounting software such as Yardi, Compliance Depot, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Yardi ERP Experience
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
- CPA highly preferred.
