The essential job responsibilities of the Water Laboratory Specialist 1 are to reports to Manager. Collect water and test water samples; perform microbiological and / or chemical rests; maintain related computerized records; and comply with federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and standards on drinking water. Prepare and sterilize instruments and daily operational equipment such as spectrophotometer, phion specific electrode meter, microwave accelerated reaction system, laboratory sterilizers, autoclave, colorimeter, specific ion electrode, microscope, and perform annual set of Performance Evaluation Samples as required by the USEPA and the State of Tennessee for annual certification. Answer routine water complaints; flush hydrants as required; and operate Division vehicle. Prepare records of daily test results, compliance monitoring reports, monthly reports, various reports, complaint calls, etc. by utilizing the Laboratory Information System software (LIMS) aid personal computer software. Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) within microbiological laboratory. Notify appropriate personnel when abnormal conditions are found on route. Keep abreast of the latest developments in the rules, regulations, and standards of the State of Tennessee Laboratory Certification, TDEC, USEPA, etc. Perform other duties as directed.
Qualification Requirements :
To perform the Water Laboratory Specialist 1 role, you must :
- Have a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, General Science, or a related field. -Must be certified annually under the Safe Drinking Water Act, Public Law 93-523, Section t 401. -Must have knowledge and skills in chemical and / or bacteriological testing included in the drinking water regulations. -Must complete Hazardous Waste Materials Training (29 CFR 1910.120) within 2 years of entering job. -Must pass the Color Blind I Test. -Must successfully complete NIMS training within one year of entering job. -Must have skills in computer software such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc. -Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence. Physical Working Conditions : Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment. Works inside and outside.
