Who We Are:
The Modern Classrooms Project (MCP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers educators to build classrooms that respond to every student’s needs. Founded by two award-winning teachers, we lead a movement of educators in implementing a self-paced, mastery-based instructional model that leverages technology to foster human connection, authentic learning, and social-emotional growth.
To date, we have reached over 80,000 teachers through our free online course and 20,000 teachers through our Virtual Mentorship Program. We serve educators all around the world, and support over 200 school, district, and state partners nationwide. We are an ambitious, idealistic team led by former classroom teachers, and we are passionate about what we do.
Why We Need You:
Our model and the training we offer are designed to empower educators teaching any subject or grade level, in any school, anywhere in the world. We’ve seen everyone from pre-K teachers to law professors implement it effectively. If an educator believes our model will work for their learners, we know it will.
We’ve always had, however, a special relationship with math. Our co-founders initially developed our model as high-school math teachers, some of our most effective implementers are math teachers, and there’s a natural alignment between a mastery-based approach and the way that math knowledge builds on itself. There’s also a huge need for effective instruction in math - and schools and districts across the country who are eager for math pedagogy that really works.
With this in mind, the MCP team is innovating on how we can create a better planning and teaching experience for math educators and a better learning experience for math students. This is where you come in! We need you to manage the implementation of several exciting new math initiatives, including the adaptation of high-quality math instructional materials into a format that facilitates blended, self-paced, mastery-based instruction.
We want it to be easy for any math educator to meet every learner's needs. You’ll help make that happen.
What You’ll Do:
The Math Curriculum Development Manager will support the design, creation, and improvement of classroom-ready materials that help teachers meet their learners’ needs. The Manager will collaborate with a team of contractors to adapt high-quality instructional materials to work seamlessly with the Modern Classrooms Project instructional model. Their work will involve the training and coaching of contractors as well as reviewing their work for publication.
The Manager will analyze data and feedback from educators using MCP’s curricular materials to iterate on and improve them. In developing and bettering these materials, the Manager will help MCP shape the future of math education in our partner districts and beyond.
This position requires excellent project management and communication skills, as well as a passion for the pedagogy of mathematics. The Manager will work on the Product team, reporting to the Director of Math Curriculum & Support.
This position is grant-funded, and continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of ongoing funding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collecting and organizing qualitative and quantitative feedback from educators
- Adapting existing math curricula (e.g. Illustrative Mathematics) to fit the MCP model
- Hiring, training, and managing contractors who help develop math curricular materials
- Reviewing and providing feedback on contractor submissions with a high level of attention to detail
- Preparing and distributing high-quality curricular resources across multiple platforms, including Google Drive
- Collaborating with the Program, Partnerships, Sales, and Research teams to ensure excellent materials for math educators
- Manage additional math-related projects as needed
What We’re Looking For:
- Thorough knowledge of math curriculum and pedagogy at the K-12 level.
- Experience teaching 3rd - 9th grade math in a traditional classroom setting (Modern Classroom implementation preferred).
- Experience developing curriculum-related materials in a full-time or contract-based capacity.
- Demonstrated exceptional communication and collaboration abilities.
- Comfort with remote work in a dynamic, start-up environment.
- General knowledge of Google Suite tools, especially Google Slides & Google Sheets.
- Self-starter who can work independently and think on their feet.
- Passionate about making the world a better place, particularly through education.
