Job Summary
Mohawk Valley Materials, Inc., a woman owned small business headquartered in Rome, New York, performs land clearing services around the country. MVM is currently seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operator’s (HEO) to join our team working on various project locations throughout central New York the country. The Heavy Equipment Operator will safely, and according to the direction of their Project Manager (PM) or Project Superintendent (PS) perform land clearing operations required for the project. The HEO will operate various equipment, perform routine maintenance, safety checks, complete daily reports/logs and follow all safety protocols.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as an excavator, excavator with various attachments dozer, loader, skid steer & haul truck to accomplish land clearing tasks.
· Prior to operating equipment, conducts routine inspections to identify needed maintenance or repairs. Also performs same routine inspection at the end of their shift.
· Monitors gauges and other indicators to ensure safe operation.
· Performs or requests necessary repairs and adjustments to equipment.
· Assists with repairs as needed.
· Adheres to all safety rules, guidelines, and codes.
· Maintains records of time worked and materials used.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· The ability to operate a equipment with GPS
· Thorough understanding of practices involved in the use of various types of heavy equipment.
· Thorough understanding of maintenance and basic repairs associated with heavy equipment.
· Thorough understanding of safety rules and ability to safely operate machinery.
· Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
· Ability to complete daily forms with the use of a smart phone or similar device.
· Superior skill operating assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent, with at least two years of experience operating construction equipment with demonstrated ability to perform grubbing and piling operations
· OSHA10 is required
· OSHA 30-hour training, preferred
· OSHA 40 (HAZWOPER) training, preferred
· Basic First Aid/CPR, preferred
· Ability to travel for work in other geographical locations for extended periods
· Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to physically operate heavy equipment.
· Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand to operate and repair heavy equipment.
· Must be able to manipulate foot pedals for control of equipment.
· Must be able to grasp control levers with both hands to steer equipment.
· Must be able to work in all types of weather, including extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures.
· Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
