Momar is looking for a Laboratory Manager!
Momar, Inc., a privately owned, specialty chemical manufacturing company based in Atlanta GA, is seeking a Laboratory Manager to join the Momar family. Reporting to the Technical Director, the Laboratory Manager will oversee Momar's technical team members, including Analytical Chemists, Quality Control Chemists, and Production Chemists. They will manage all laboratory functions with the support of the Assistant Technical Director and CTO. The scope of responsibility for this position spans multiple departments within Momar, Inc., including Technical, Production, and Safety.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist production with technical inquiries, including but not limited to the shelf life and storage of finished goods and raw materials, chemical adjustments for out-of-spec (OOS) batches, advising on chemically compatible packaging, spill response, and the handling of hazardous wastes.
- Oversee new lab member orientation and training, providing clear instructions on each lab member’s roles and responsibilities within the technical team.
- Maintain all laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and coordinate their revision and training as required.
- Monitor active lab analyses, including AquaTrol service analyses, MinTech sample analyses, LuBest oil and diesel analyses, and other outside lab service offerings.
- Assist Technical Directors with the maintenance of lab equipment, ensuring that preventative maintenance contracts are upheld for more expensive lab equipment and that annual service and regular calibrations are maintained.
- Provide sales and customer support services via phone and email, requiring the ability to quickly comprehend complicated technical systems and processes and provide critical recommendations across various industries.
- Conduct timely quality assurance investigations by logging, performing retain testing, and reporting product complaints and deviations. Author root cause analyses (RCA) and corrective action response plans (CAR) for identified non-conformances and audit findings.
- Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the use of laboratory apparatus and equipment. Strong ability to work cross-departmentally to organize, teach, and facilitate cooperation with others in an effective and responsible manner.
- Provide technical support via field service visits and site surveying.
- Monitor laboratory inventory and submit requisitions as appropriate to maintain lab inventory Reorder Points (ROPs) and Reorder Quantities (ROQs) for all lab reagents and general supplies.
- Maintain the chemical inventory for the plant, including laboratory raw materials, reagents, and finished goods.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong grasp of algebra, analytical techniques, safe chemical handling, and general laboratory skills (such as pipetting, weighing, dilutions, etc.).
- Ability to make color assessments for red, pink, blue, purple, yellow, and orange indicators for titration determination.
- Ability to research and effectively communicate complex technical topics.
- Ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in written form.
- Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Task-oriented and results-driven with proficiency in technical problem-solving.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related STEM major.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant industrial experience.
- Proficiency using MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel; InDesign exposure preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires the ability to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including a respirator, chemical protective suit, safety glasses, face shield, chemical-resistant gloves, safety shoes, etc., as needed.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and be required to push/pull heavy materials to complete assignments.
- Able to perform job tasks in sometimes dusty, hot, and/or cold working conditions.
- Required to maintain Respirator Certification upon hire (provided by the company). Clean shaven on the neck area is essential for an adequate seal.
