Job Summary :
The Special Education Teacher's Assistant supports the teacher in charge and supports students in the classroom.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
- Supervises the behavior of all students in the classroom, throughout school grounds, and on educational trips.
Duties & Responsibilities :
Assists the lead teacher in planning and teaching the curriculum.Collaborates with the lead teacher, actively creating and maintaining a well-managed, positive classroom environment that supports student engagement and motivation.Develops and maintains positive relationships with students.Supervises the students in the classroom and throughout the school.Prepares and restores classroom materials and supplies.Works with students as a class, small group, and individually.Assists with coordination, facilitation, and monitoring of teaching activities, including field trips and on-site experiences.Understands and supports the school's mission through professional conduct and actions which demonstrate the core values and philosophy of the organization.Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Skills & Abilities :
Understanding of pedagogy and the best practices of education.Desire to teach school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status.Ability to assist in designing lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.Supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Education & Experience :
A High School DiplomaA combination of child development education and professional experience working with children.Experience working with children with a variety of needs and diverse backgrounds.Skill with communicating in a professional manner to staff, families, and the community.Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.An Equal Opportunity Employer
