Overview
The Bookkeeper is responsible for recording and maintaining Motown Museum’s financial transactions, such as purchases, expenses, sales revenue, invoices, and payments. This person will record financial data into general ledgers, which are used to produce the balance sheet and income statement for the Museum.
Essential Functions
- Operates a computer programmed with accounting software to record, store, and analyze information.
- Checks figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes.
- Complies with federal and state accounting laws, company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Operates a calculator and copy machine to perform calculations and produce documents.
- Receives and records cash, checks, vouchers, and credit card transactions.
Competencies
- Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and accounting procedures
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite; QuickBooks preferred
- Ability to solve mathematical problems

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Work Environment
This position operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as a computer, a calculator, phone, photocopier/fax machine, and filing cabinets.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and use repetitive motions. The employee is occasionally required to reach, handle, grasp, talk, and hear. Rarely, does the position require standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, feeling, and eye/hand/foot coordination. The position requires little physical effort.

Education/Experience
- Associates Degree in Accounting or successful completion of several accounting courses as part of a current pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Two years of recent work experience in clerical accounting
