Job Description
Mount Saint Mary’s University (MD) Sociology, Criminal Justice and Human Services Department invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position to begin in the Fall of 2025.
The successful applicant will regularly teach our sequence of Research Methods (Fall) and Statistics (Spring) and offer electives in their area of expertise that supports majors in Human Services and Sociology. Desirable elective courses include but are not limited to Death and Dying/Thanatology, Aging/Gerontology, Poverty/Homelessness, Mediation/Conflict Resolution, Organizational Sociology, Addiction, Sociology of Sport, and Principles of Interviewing. Applicants who can teach one class of Sociological Theory each Spring semester will be at an advantage. The teaching load is 4-3 or 3-4 and classes are capped at 25. Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
Mount St. Mary’s University is a liberal arts institution with an undergraduate enrollment of 1750 and a welcoming Catholic mission. It is located in Emmitsburg, near Frederick (MD) and Gettysburg (PA), with Baltimore and Washington DC each within about an hour’s drive from campus. The successful applicant will join a very collegial department of six, replacing a member who has assumed an administrative role.
Although a Ph.D. in Sociology is preferred, candidates with a Ph.D. in Human Services or a related degree are also encouraged to apply. ABD applicants may submit their materials along with evidence that they can defend prior to the commencement of the position. Teacher-scholars from minoritized backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will teach a broad range of sociology courses, including ones relevant to careers in Human Services; conduct original research and publish scholarship in reputable outlets; render service to the department and university; and demonstrate a willingness to understand and contribute to the university’s undergraduate mission. A passion for teaching, dedication to the liberal arts, and appreciation of interdisciplinary endeavors are all essential.
